Nuremberg City Center – Shopping, History and Business

Nuremberg is among Germany’s most beautiful cities: full of traditional architecture, exquisite cuisine, and pristine shopping opportunities. The Nuremberg city center is a mix of all these characteristics and invites you to explore every nook and cranny.

The Nuremberg city center has a far more organic feel to it than many other German city centers. Its beauty isn’t by design, but organically grown over centuries. Shops and restaurants are spread along the four large roads Königsstrasse, Breite Gasse, Karolinenstrasse, and Kaiserstrasse. These alone are well worth a visit, but that’s not all Nuremberg’s center has to offer.

Even the tiniest road has something special to offer! Maybe a café or traditional Bavarian beer garden? Or a unique specialty shop? Take your time and explore! Breite Gasse is a tip for fashion lovers – with new trends, young fashion stores and hip boutiques.

Framed by the St. Lawrence’s Church, St. Martha’s Church, St. Clara’s Church, City Hall, and the Women’s Tower, Nuremberg’s rich cultural history is also waiting to be explored! Modern architecture seamlessly blends into medieval walls, centuries old towers and facades of glass are equally defining for the face of Nuremberg’s center.

The Church of Our Lady is Nuremberg’s most famous sight. Located on the eastern side of the main market, the Frauenkirche has plenty of room to breathe and its Gothic brick architecture is a defining and historic feature of Nuremberg’s long history. The Church of Our Lady itself dates back to the 14th century and was erected under King Charles IV.

The Christkindlesmarkt is Nuremberg’s biggest seasonal draw and illuminates Nuremberg’s old town every year during the holiday season. Artisanal stands, freshly grilled sausages, mulled wine and catholic tradition make this winter market perhaps the most colorful one in all of Germany.
