Berlin Mitte is right at the heart of Berlin – as its name suggests! “Mitte” is German for middle or center, which is more than fitting for this dynamic and metropolitan area of the city!

Mitte is one of Berlin‘s most historic parts: Berlin was founded here in the 13th century and you can still experience the charm of medieval architecture in Nikolaiviertel. The Rotes Rathaus – Berlin‘s city hall – is a distinctive landmark that you shouldn’t miss. A few minutes‘ walk away, you can admire the French and German cathedrals (with an excellent Christmas market in December), amongst other impressive historical buildings. If you love history and culture, check out Museum Island with its five top-notch museums, one of the highlights being the famous bust of Nefertiti.

The River Spree is just around the corner – perfect for enjoying a nice dinner whilst looking at the stunning view and glistening water. Or why not take a boat ride and experience Berlin with a unique guided tour!

The area around Humboldt University is one of Berlin‘s most exclusive business districts. Just around the corner, you can stroll through the impressive book store Kulturkaufhaus Dussmann, the Galeries Lafayettes or any of the shops and boutiques on Friedrichstraße. If you get the chance, catch a show at the variety theater Friedrichstadtpalast, Berlin‘s opera hall, Admiralspalast or Berliner Ensemble.

Take a stroll down Unter den Linden avenue and check out the trendy spots around Alexanderplatz with its World Clock. This used to be the center of East Berlin before the Wall came down. These days, Alexanderplatz is especially known for being very hip, with many trends emerging from here. Not a week goes by without an exciting new restaurant, bar opening or event! If you‘re new in the city, a trip to the top of the Fernsehturm (Television Tower) is a definite must! In clear weather, you can see the entire city from this impressive structure – the tallest building in Germany! – while sipping a drink at the bar.
